~ On ' July 9-10,1998, the NRC staff met with Duke Energy Corporation (Duke) personnel to discuss technical matters related to the proposed improved Technical Specifications (ITS) for Catawba and McGuire nuclear stations (see letters from M. S. Tuckman to NRC, May 27,1997, March 9, March 20, April 20,1998, June 24 and July 8,1998, for both Catawba and McGuire).

' Enclosure 1 is the list of meeting participants.

The meeting was a " working meeting" in which participants discussed the staff's questions and the licensee's responses or proposed responses. Results of the exchanges on technical issues will be reflected in the ITS for each unit to be issued by future operating license amendments.

. Duke participants asked if the NRC staff would agree (1) to the Alus final ITS being typed using word processing software " Word," instead of " Wordperfect 6.1," and (2) that the ITS for the two units at each site be combined as one document. The staff agreed to each.of these requests.
