1 Status Report for Week Ending June 29, 1974 Pacific Cas and Electric Company Diablo Canyon Nuclear Plant, Unito 1 & 2 Docket Nos. 50-275/323 The critical path item in the Diablo Canyon safety review appears to be resolution of the problem of offshore faults in the vicinity of the Diablo Canyon site.

The applicant's initial report on offshore geology and seismology was received on 6/27/74, and is currently being reviewed by the staff.

In addition, the applicant has recently initiated new offshore geological investigations which are currently in progress. The staff has scheduled a meeting with PG&E on 7/5/74 to diccuss the progress of these investigations, and to review new oil company geological data which PG&E has obtained in recent weeks.

Status' Report for Week Ending July 6, 1974 Pacific Gas and Electric Company Diablo Canyon Nuclear Plant, Units 1 & 2 Docket Nos. 50-275/323 Heeting with PG&E held on 7/5/74 to review the progress of the offshore geological investigations which have been initiated recently by the applicant.

The staff indicated at the meeting that these investigations should provide a reasonably complete geologic mapping of the offshore area in the vicinity of the Diablo Canyon site. PG&E stated that their final report on this subject will be submitted to the staff by 9/1/74.

If this date is met, the staff (and USGS) will require 40-45 days for review of the material and issuance of a supplement to the safety evaluation. The ACRS review could then take pit.cc at the November meeting, and the hearitig would begin no later than 1/1/73, with.us ialtial deci. lyn spected by 4/1/75.
