1.1 Objective l
This procedure provides instructions for cleaning and inspection of i
-General Electric (GE) 4160-volt, metal-clad switchgear, type M-26.
l 1.2 - Discussion r
This procedure provides instructions for performing inspection, cleaning, and adjustment of GE type M-26 switchgear. This procedure is based on GE recommendations, Unit 1 Maintenance, Engineering, and Nuclear Training personnel experience, and the Electric Power Research Institute (EPRI) Preventive Maintenance Program Basis for Medium Voltage Switchgear. The procedure is divided into sections that accomplish each l.
major preventive maintenance task. Some tasks require the buses to be L
deenergized and are not required to be performed for each maintenance
(
j interval. These sections are followed by "(Optional)"in the section title.
Maintenance may be performed on several cubicles at the same time if necessary.
Unless directed othenvise by Engineering or FLS, switchgear PM includes performance of the following sections:

!h 3.4 During disassembly, inspection, repair, and assembly, switchgear llH) components should be protected from operations that can generate foreign particles.
3.5 Some sections of a switchgear lineup may remain energized depending on plant conditions. Low voltage circuits such as space heaters, annunciators, de power supplies and protective relays may be energized. A thorough understanding of the scope of the job and tagging required for each switchgear is necessary prior to the start of work.
3.6 When the cubicle being serviced is energized with 4160 volts, and the shutter doors are open or the elevators are raised, the cubicle should not be entered. Only when primary voltage to both the bus and the load side disconnects are tagged out, may the elevator assemblies or shutter mechanism be adjusted or disassembled.
3.7 Some buswork connections in 4160-volt switchgear cubicles are insulated with a material called Ductscal. This material may contain asbestos.
Safety and IIcalth Department recommends the following actions be takenpriorto removal of Ductsealinsulation:
Safety and Health Department must be notified to establish recommended work practices.
(mj A bulk sample of Ductscal must be taken and analyzed.
i Air sampling may be performed as necessary.
3.8 When returning a 4KV circuit breaker to cubicle, an elevator handle latch must be installed if the breaker is to remain on the cubicle floor. The j
elevator handle latch must be removed if breaker is to be rolled out of cubicle.
