2.0 PURPOSE AND SCOPE L

g.g The purpoce of this instruction is to provide the cMteria to be-used when performing verification of seismic wall and ceiling mounted component support base plates located in j
Seismic Category I Buildings for grouting in accordance with the requi rements of Reference 1-A.
Floor mounted base plates receiving dry pack material or grout do not fa M
i within the scope of this instruction.

3.0 INSTRUCTION l
1 3.1 BASE PLATE GROUTING AND SHIMMING i
Component support base plates mounted to concrete surfaces I
shall not exceed a 1/16" gap between the base plate and concrete for a minimum of 80% of the base plate area. The gap between the base plate and concrete for a maximum of 20". may exceed 1/16" but at no point shall the gap exceed 1/2".
The gap shall be measured from the periphery of the l
baseplate (See Attachment 1).
l Shim material may consist of steel shim plates or washers of a size necessary to allow proper Hilti bolt torquing without base plate deformation.
The grout fill holes shall be 1/4" diamater and shall not be drilled within 1 inch of a O
concrete anchor.
Additionally, the grout fill holes shall C) be located outside the bolt hole pattern, i

shall be verified by Quality Control inspectors per Reference 1-0, 3.2 DOCUMENTATION j
Inspections shall be recorded on an Inspection Report in i
accordance with Reference 1-B.
This Inspection Report may be included as attributes on an Inspection Report generic to a specific hanger inspection instruction (i.e., Class 5 pi pe suppo rts, condui t supports) as outli ned in that i
specific instruction.
l Hangers inspected by the craft as required per Reference 1-C do not require a Bearing Inspection Report (Attachment 2) written for grout placement purposes.
I All unsatisfactory conditions shall be documented on an IR and/or a NCR per Reference 1-B.
IR's shall be processed O
as directed by the QA/QC Supervisor.
A reject tag may be applied to "unsat" items per Reference 1-E.
During Room Turnover activities, QC inspectors may complete I'
a "walkdown" of base plates to veri fy adequate support bearing and document on Attachment 3.
