Notice of Deviation General Electric Company Vallecitos Nuclear Center Pleasanton, California 94566 Docket No. 50-70 Based on the results of an NRC inspection conducted on March 25, 28, 30, 31 and April 1,1977 it appears that one of your activities deviated from generally accepted industry practices as indicated below:

A.

Contrary to ANSI N13.1-1969, " Guide to Sampling Airborne Radioactive Materials in Nuclear Facilities," at the time of the inspection the stack sampling system for particulates and radioiodine had a tee connection, eight short radius elbow bends and a short length of rubber hose installed upstream of the sample collection devices.

In addition, the stack sampling probe was located only a short distance above the point in the stack where abrupt changes in flow occur from the ventilation discharge.
