'tr4 llonorable Edward 'J. L Devitt fN '
Chief Judge i
U.S. Court House 316 North = Roberts St. Paul,Ilinnesota 55101
Dear Judge Devitt:
[.g, t.
The~Muclear Regulatory Commission recently decided that, on a trial basis, it will permit.the limited use of television-i and still' cameras by.ac~ credited news media during its admin-istrative hearings.
A copy of the. Commission's " General Statement of Policy" is enclosed.
The Commission's hearing boards have in the past used Federal or Stat 6 courtrooms when these facilities are available and we wish to continue that practice.
The policy
'C J of these courts in regard to the use of cameras in adminis-24 trative proceedings is, of. course, observed by our agency.
We have been. advised that Rule 7d is applicable to the use of cameras in the U.S. District Court in St. Paul for judicial proceedings.
Since many of our past proceedings have been held in the court's facilities, and we would hope to use these same facilities in the future, we request your views whether the Commission's ca'mera policy could be applied to our administrative proceedings despite the Rule 7d prohibi-7,h-tion for judicial proceedings.' We, of course, will abide by-your views ~in this matter.

Sincerely, h
