REQUEST FOR ADDITIONAL INFORMATION FOR PALISADES PRESSURIZED THERMAL SHOCK ISSUE With regard to the following questions, a response is requested within 4 working days in order to support the staff review schedule.
Questions 1-3 refer to the IP-2 Surveillance Weld and IP-3 Nozzle Cutout I. Provide information to demonstrate that the weld is either single or tandem arc.
- 2. Provide a sketch of the weld joint, showing weld sequence and location of specimens in the weld joint. Explain how it was determined that the measurements represent 3 unique combinations.
- 3. Why is the test result for D4463 included in with the IP-2 Surveillance Weld?
Questions 4-5 refer to the Palisades Steam Generator Welds
- 4. Explain how it was determined that the measurements represent 3 unique combinations (i.e. Y and Z measurements on the B seam; Y and Z measurements on the A and C seams; all X measurements).
- 5. What are the chemical analysis methods reported in Table 5-4? What is the standard error (wt% Cu) for these methods.
Provide the pooled standard error for the st~am generator measurements (wt% Cu).
- 6. Identify and provide the B&W weld studies, referenced in Statistical Analysis of the Chemistry of Heat 5214 in Attachment 5, that showed very little variation in copper content along bead length.
- 7. Provide the statement of hypotheses being tested, the detailed calculations and the results of the F and Student's T test discussed in Attachment 6.
