ANO-2 Request for Additional Information Regarding RR ANO2-PT-001 (MD9537)
By letter dated July 31, 2008, Entergy requested a request for alternative for Arkansas Nuclear One, Unit 2 (ANO-2). The licensee requested an alternative (ANO2-PT-001) to the requirements of ASME Section XI IWB-5222(b). The proposed alternative is to visually examine the extended reactor coolant pressure boundary piping between the first and second normally closed isolation valves during the Class 2 system leakage test conducted each inspection interval. The NRC staff has reviewed the July 31, 2008, request and has determined that we require additional information to complete our review. A request for additional information is enclosed. This request was discussed with Robert Clark of your staff on April 3, 2009, and it was agreed that a response would be provided within 30 days of receipt of this email.
- 1. In addition to the hardship as described in the letter dated August 21, 2008, provide the cost, man-hours, total time for inspection, and radiation exposures for performing the Code required test.
- 2. Valves 2CV-1541-1 and 2CV-1560-2 are of the same type, experience the same operating conditions, and therefore, should experience the same failure mechanisms. If the tested valve fails to meet its acceptance criteria, discuss what measures or actions are proposed to assess and verify the operability of the other valve.
