Electric Power Research Institute (EPRI) submitted EPRI Technical Report (TR) 3002025288, Enhanced Risk-Informed Categorization Methodology for Pressure Boundary Components, dated June 2023, to the U.S. Nuclear Regulatory Commission (NRC) for review and approval.

EPRI TR 3002025288 presents an enhanced methodology for categorizing pressure boundary components in support of Title 10 of the Code of Federal Regulations (10 CFR) 50.69 applications.

By letter dated July 11, 2024 (ADAMS Accession No. ML23352A054), the NRC staff accepted EPRI TR 3002025288 for review.

The purpose of this email is to inform you that the NRC is revising the review schedule for EPRI TR 3002025288.

The NRC staff now expects to issue the draft safety evaluation (SE) by August 29, 2025.

The NRC staffs decision to revise the estimated completion date of the draft SE to an earlier date was influenced by the multiple rounds of interactions with your staff and the significant effort previously expended by NRC staff during the acceptance review phase of the TR review.

However, this schedule estimate could change due to several factors, such as an untimely response to requests for additional information or an unanticipated addition of scope to the review. Therefore, to maintain this efficient schedule, we encourage you and your staff to respond to all audit questions and formal requests for information in a timely manner.

If there are emergent complexities or challenges in our review that would result in a change to the revised issuance date for the draft SE, the reasons for the change, and a revised estimate will be communicated during routine interactions with the assigned project manager.

The change in revised issuance date for the draft SE was discussed with and approved by the Director for the Division of Operating Reactor Licensing.
