Beaver Valley Power Station - Unit No. 2 Docket No. 50-412 ASME Code Case N-253/N352-1 Gentlemen:
For two applicants at Beaver Valley Power Station Unit No. 2 (BVPS-2), Code Case N253/N253-1 " Construction of Class 2 or Class 3 Components for Elevated Temperature Service,Section III, Div. 1" has been implemented.
It pennits materials to be used under limited conditions at design temperatures which are higher than the normal ASME Section III Code allowables.
The applicable 1971 Edition through the Winter of 1972 Addenda and later editions and addenda of the Code only identify allowable stress values up to 800 F.
BVPS-2 has implemented N253/N253-1 in the design of tN following components:
1)
Thermal Hydrogen Recombiners (Code Case N-253)

Cooling Coil 1400 F 316 stainless steel 2
Reaction Chamber 1400 F 316 stainless steel 2

Emergency Diesel Generator Exhaust (Code Case N253-1)
Item Temperature Material ASME Class 22" & 38" 00 1000 F Carbon Steel 3
Exhaust Piping Since N253/N253-1 is not recognized in the latest revision of Regulatory Guide 1.84, Duquesne Light Company is hereby requesting approval to utilize it in these limited applications.
