Dear Chairman Diaz:

We appreciate our recent discussions on the industry mitigation strategy studies.

We have engaged the NRC senior staff and will continue to do so as we move forward.

As we discussed, the industry is completing the pilot study at Plant Hatch and will initiate the pilot studies for Catawba, Palo Verde and Clinton, as scheduled. These four facilities will r.o-vide insights that are representative of a large majority of the plants.

Given the schedule for completing the above mentioned activities, we look forward to meeting with the Commission the week of February 21 to discuss the results of the Plant Hatch studyai-d-thle p6liifi-iary results0from the other three pilots. The purpose of the meeting would be to update you on the actual results from the pilot studies and engage in a discussion of insights and policy issues resulting from the studies. Due to the sensitive nature of the discussions, industry attendance would be limited to Skip Bowman, Mike Wallace and a select few industry and NEI executives. Based upon the availability of our participants, we would propose February 24 as a preferred day for the meeting.
