C&D Batteries acknowledges the receipt of the Bechtel Power Corp.

letter re: the subject of October 21, 1981, with the C&D TWX to Bechtel of November 2, 1981 (copies to Consumers Power Co., NRC Region I & III).

C&D is in the process of evaluating the reported condition which will include examination of the sectioned frame welds upon receipt from Bechtel. Comparise, will be made to those welds on the similar rack designed, tested and qualified at Wyle Labs on liovember 16, 1976 (Report #43450-1). Consideration will be given the application /in-stallation conditions observed by CLD personnel at the site (October 14

& 15, 1981).

The Commission will be advised immediately of our determination, and of any subsequent appropriate actions.
