During the period of March 9, 1987 through March 25, 1987, the NRC audited the

administration of the annual requalification written and operating examinations

i

at your Limerick Generating Station. At the exit interview held on

March 25, 1987 the preliminary results of these evaluations were discussed.

l

Areas examined during this evaluation are described in the Region I evaluation

report which is enclosed with this letter. Within the scope of this

l

evaluation the requalification training program was found to be marginal. A

marginal evaluation is the criteria established for those programs falling

between satisfactory and unsatisfactory. Therefore, we request that you

review the enclosed evaluation report and inform me within 30 days of the date

of this letter of your proposed corrective actions and schedule for resolving

the identified deficiencies.

A followup audit will be scheduled for November, 1987 to ensure that effective

I

corrective-actions have been implemented. Operator and Senior Operator

l

license renewal applications will continue to be processed if corrective

actions identified are being implemented to the extent and in conformance with

your established schedule.

'

In accordance with Examiner Standard 601, Section G (NUREG-1021), documentation

of remedial training for those identified deficiencies shall be provided on all

license application renewals until such time as your Requalification Training

Program is evaluated as satisfactory.

In accordance with 10 CFR 2.790 of the Commission's regulations, a copy of this

letter and the enclosure will be placed in the NRC Public Document Room.
