By letter dated November 4, 1987, MIT requested the possession limits'of' ,

I . Materials License No. SNM-986 be~ amended to include.2 mg U-233.for storage.-

• This material was not previously listed-in..the license, but was acquired.by MIT more than 25 years!ago for research purposes under en AEC grant. The' licensee'is planning to request the transfer of this material' to the- ,,

Department of Energy.

Established management systems and procedurer at MIT are adequate to assure. .._

that the. material will be stored ~ properly, and without threat, to the health '

and safety of-the workers or the public.

1; The proposed incorporation of 2 mg U-233 material into the license ~ is procedural  ?

in nature and will not compromise environmental protection. In'accordance'with c ,

10 CFR 51.22 (c)(I4)(v), this action.is a categorica1' exclusion, therefore..

neither an Environmental Assessment nor an Environmental Impact Statement'is '
