July 28, 1987, letter from C.E. Morelius to Cordell-Reed

Dear Mr. Davis:

The referenced letter provided commonwealth Edison Company with an allegation regarding the quality and safe operation of products purchased from a specific valve vendor.

This situation has been carefully reviewed.

The conclusion of this review is that the check valves in question have not been utilized in the past, nor will they be used in the future at Zion Station.

Interviews were conducted with the appropriate members of the mechanical maintenance and warehouse / storeroom departments.

In addition, a historical review was conducted of previous purchase orders.

This effort demonstrated that none of the valves in question were installed in the plant, or present in storage. However, one valve was on order. A 6" dual plate check valve was listed on Purchase Order No. 310782.

i Purchase Order No. 310782 was canceled on August 17, 1987.

In addition, the corporate Quality Assurance Department has been notified to evaluate the adequacy of any future purchase orders.
