July 15, 2025 Week Ending: July 4, 2025 ENCLOSURE C Office of Nuclear Reactor Regulation Items of Interest Virgil C, Summer Nuclear Station On June 30,2025, the staff issued the subsequent renewed license for Virgil C. Summer Nuclear Station, Unit 1 (V.C. Summer), authorizing operation for an additional 20 years beyond the current license expiration dates. The subsequent renewed license will now expire on August 6, 2062. V.C. Summer is the sixth plant to receive a subsequent renewed license, bringing the total number of units with subsequent renewed licenses to 11.
Holtec By a letter dated July 1, 2025, Holtec submitted its Notification of Readiness for Transition to Power Operation Licensing Basis letter (Agencywide Documents Access and Management System (ADAMS) Accession No. ML25182A066). The purpose of the letter is to report on the licensing and regulatory activities needed to support the resumption of power operations at Palisades and its readiness to implement the power operations licensing basis (the bundle of license actions). The letter states that the proposed implementation date for transitioning is August 25, 2025.
TerraPower, LLC, Kemmerer Power On July 1, 2025, U.S. Nuclear Regulatory Commission (NRC) staff issued a letter (ML25181A764) to inform US SFR Owner, LLC (USO), a wholly owned subsidiary of TerraPower, LLC, the NRC staff plans to issue the final safety evaluation and the final EIS by December 31, 2025, ahead of the updated schedule communicated in the February 26, 2025, letter (ML25055A019). This shift is being accommodated primarily through streamlined reviews by management and the Advisory Committee on Reactor Safeguards. The accelerated timeline depends on a continued commitment from USO to resolve the staffs outstanding issues in a timely manner.
