Dear Mr. Matthews:
In the above reference letter, South Carolina Electric & Gas (SCE&G) described our desire to pursue new nuclear generation and to inform you of our intent to submit a Combined License for two units. As a follow-up, we would like to provide more specific information relative to the previous submittal. We have chosen the Westinghouse AP1000 as the reactor technology and have selected the existing Virgil C. Summer Nuclear Station site as the location. We will be utilizing Bechtel as the primary contractor to aid us in the development of the application, which is targeted for submittal in the third calendar quarter of 2007. The desired in-service date for the first unit is by 2015, and the date for the second unit will be determined later. We have also elected to join the NuStart organization in an effort to efficiently combine industry resources and work toward an effective and consistent application.
We would like to set up a meeting with your staff to discuss future actions including pre-application inspections, early submittal of information, submittals common to all Westinghouse AP1000 plants, etc.
