Victor Dricks, 817-200-1128 NRC Proposes $11,600 Fine to Providence Alaska Medical Center The Nuclear Regulatory Commission is proposing an $11,600 civil penalty to Providence Alaska Medical Center for violations related to a medical event at the center in Anchorage, Alaska.
Three violations of NRC requirements were identified in a Feb. 2 inspection report, related to a medical event that involved the administration of radioactive yttrium-90 to a patient on June 14, 2017.
The patient suffered no adverse health effects as a result of the event.
NRC staff met with company representatives on April 3 during a pre-decisional enforcement conference to discuss the three violations. Company officials did not contest the violations and provided the NRC with information about long-term corrective actions.
The company has 30 days in which to dispute the fine or request involvement of a neutral third-party mediator to resolve the issue.
