Subject:

Updated Plans for Restoration of the South Reactor Feedpump In Reference 2, DTE Electric Company (DTE) [previously, The Detroit Edison Company]

provided NRC with information regarding plans for restoration of the South Reactor Feedpump (SRFP) at Fermi 2. The letter stated that DTE will restore the SRFP prior to plant startup following the sixteenth Refueling Outage (RF 16) in the first quarter of Calendar Year 2014. Reference 2 also stated that, contingent on the completion of refurbishment and testing, plans were being made for a mid-cycle outage in the first quarter of 2013 to restore the SRFP; however, the plans were potentially subject to change.

In Reference 3, the NRC acknowledged DTE's commitment to restore the SRFP by RF16 and the anticipation of the restoration in the first quarter of 2013. The NRC requested verbal and written notification if restoration plans are changed.

USNRC NRC-13-0018 Page 2 Due to unanticipated delays, restoration of the SRFP did not occur in the first quarter of 2013. DTE is currently pursuing options that support a mid-cycle outage to restore the SRFP prior to RF16; however, these plans are not yet finalized and are contingent on the completion of significant asset refurbishment and testing activities. Any future updates will be provided to the Resident Inspector's office at Fermi 2. DTE's commitment to restore the SRFP prior to plant startup following RF16, currently scheduled for the first quarter of Calendar Year 2014, remains unchanged.
