Nuclear Regulatory Commission Attention: Document Control Desk One White Flint North 11555 Rockville Pike Rockville, MD 20852-2738 South Texas Project Unit 2 Docket No. STN 50-499 Unit 2 Control Room Inleakage Testing Results (TAC NO. MB9859)

References:

1. Letter from David W. Rencurrel, STP Nuclear Operating Company, to the NRC Document Control Desk, dated June 6, 2006 (NOC-AE-06002018)
2. Letter from David W. Rencurrel, STP Nuclear Operating Company, to the NRC Document Control Desk, dated March 22, 2007 (NOC-AE-07002127)

In Reference 1, the STP Nuclear Operating Company (STPNOC) made the following commitment to the Nuclear Regulatory Commission (NRC).

In response to NRC Generic Letter 2003-01, control room envelope inleakage will be determined for South Texas Project Unit 2 using tracer gas methods and the results will be reported to the Nuclear Regulatory Commission.

Testing for control room envelope inleakage in Unit 2 using tracer gas methods was completed on February 14, 2007. The test results were as follows:

[

Train Combination Tested 1 Unfiltered Inleakage Trains A and B 11 +-6 scfm Trains A and C 0 +/- 9 scfm Trains B and C 64 +/- 8 scfm IThe Control Room Filtration and Cleanup Recirculation System consists of three 50 - per cent capacity trains.

2 scfm is standard cubic feet per minute.

STI: 32170436 r4,o ý9

NOC-AE-07002175 Page 2 The test results are greater than the unfiltered inleakage assumed in the current licensing basis accident analysis. Compensatory measures have been implemented to ensure that regulatory limits for meeting control room dose requirements are not exceeded. As a permanent resolution to this non-conforming condition, STPNOC submitted a license amendment request (Reference 2) to apply the Accident Source Term pursuant to 10 CFR 50.67 to allow for higher unfiltered inleakage.

This letter completes the STPNOC commitment discussed above. There are no new commitments in this letter.
