Virtual Private Network (VPN) Transition Ladies and Gentlemen:
In accordance with the requirements of 10 CFR 50, Appendix E, Section VI, Item 3a, Southern Nuclear Operating Company is submitting a notification of changes to the Joseph M. Farley Nuclear Plant, Unit 1 and Unit 2; Edwin I. Hatch Nuclear Power Plant, Unit 1 and Unit 2; and the Vogtle Electric Generating Plant, Unit 1 and Unit 2, Emergency Response Data System (ERDS).
Changes involve a conversion from a dial-up modem-based system to a more reliable internet-based system using a plant information server and NRC supplied virtual private network (VPN) appliance. The planned changes to the ERDS systems were previously communicated on July 31,2011, when SNC verbally informed the NRC of SNC's intent to implement the ERDS VPN on November 16, 2011. Installation and testing of the ERDS VPN have been completed; however, the SNC implementation date has been revised to December 13, 2011. No changes were made to the data point libraries for any of the three sites.
