OF DECEMBER 8, 2025, PUBLIC TELECONFERENCE REGARDING WOLF CREEK GENERATING STATION, UNIT 1, REQUEST FOR PARTIAL SITE RELEASE (EPID L-2025-LLL-0012) (DOCKET NUMBER: 50-482)
On December 8, 2025, a Comment-Gathering Public Meeting was held by the U.S. Nuclear Regulatory Commission (NRC) for members of the public. The purpose of this meeting is to obtain public comments on the Wolf Creek Nuclear Operating Corporation (the licensee) proposed release of part of the Wolf Creek Generating Station (Wolf Creek) site (Agencywide Documents Access and Management System (ADAMS) Accession No. ML25245A104).
Pursuant to Title 10 of the Code of Federal Regulation (10 CFR) Section 50.83, "Release of part of a power reactor facility or site for unrestricted use," the licensee requested approval to donate 4.46 acres of non-impacted land to Stringtown Cemetery Board in accordance with 10 CFR 50.83(b). Publicly available presentation slides for this meeting can be found in ADAMS at ML25272A175.
The NRC staff initially planned a public meeting at the New Strawn Fire Station in New Strawn, Kansas, near Wolf Creek on October 15, 2025, as required per 10 CFR 50.83(f). The NRC staff published a FR Notice on September 26, 2025 (90 FR 46420) announcing the public meeting and soliciting public comments and published announcements in local newspapers: Coffey County Republican (October 2 and 9, 2025) and Topeka Capital Journal (October 13, 2025). In addition, the NRC staff posted a public meeting notice on the NRC website on September 30, 2025 (ML25273A134). With the unplanned U.S. Government shutdown, the NRC staff canceled the October 15, 2025, public meeting. The NRC staff announcements remind the public to monitor the NRC public meeting schedule website. The NRC staff rescheduled the meeting to be this virtual meeting - exempting itself from the requirement to allow conducting a virtual public meeting instead of an in-person meeting near the plant (ML25321A689). The meeting notice and agenda, dated November 21, 2025, are available in ADAMS at ML25325A0491. The NRC staffs presentation slides are available in ADAMS at ML25272A175. A list of attendees is provided in the enclosure. All comments received during the meeting were positive and appreciative of the meeting. No regulatory decisions were made at this meeting.
1 The meeting notice was updated in the NRC public meeting notification system to add the telephone bridge number to the meeting notice. This changed the meeting notice ADAMS number from ML25325A049 to ML25329A241.
