The U.S. Nuclear Regulatory Commission was created as an expert, technical agency to protect public health, safety, and security, and regulate the civilian use of nuclear materials, including enabling the deployment of nuclear power for the benefit of society. Among other responsibilities, the agency issues licenses, conducts inspections, initiates and enforces regulations, and plans for incident response. The global gold standard for nuclear regulation, the NRC is collaborating with interagency partners to implement reforms outlined in new Executive Orders and the ADVANCE Act to streamline agency activities and enhance efficiency.
No: 25-045 July 22, 2025 CONTACT: Scott Burnell, 301-415-8200 NRC Announces Opportunity to Request a Hearing on TVA Clinch River Construction Permit Application The Nuclear Regulatory Commission staff has published in the Federal Register a notice of opportunity to petition to intervene in an adjudicatory hearing on Tennessee Valley Authoritys construction permit application for a BWRX-300 small modular reactor at the Clinch River site in Tennessee.
Petitions to intervene in a hearing must be filed by September 15 by anyone whose interest may be affected by the proposed construction permit and who wishes to participate as a party in the proceeding. Additional information on the hearing process is available on the NRC website.
