Dear Thomas Basso:

This letter is in response to the petition for rulemaking (PRM), dated January 22, 2025, that you filed with the U.S. Nuclear Regulatory Commission (NRC) on behalf of the Nuclear Energy Institute. You request that the NRC revise its regulations at 10 CFR Part 50, Domestic Licensing of Production and Utilization Facilities, to (1) remove specific conditions not necessary to ensure safety or are no longer needed by the industry, and (2) incorporate requested standards to the next revision of regulatory guide 1.84, which will be incorporated by reference into the agencys rulemaking on industry standards. The RES response letter is attached for reference. The NRC docketed your petition pursuant to § 2.803 of 10 CFR, Petition for rulemaking-NRC action, on March 6, 2025, and assigned it Docket No. PRM-50-127. Please reference this docket number on any correspondence you may have concerning the petition.
