RESPONSE TO INQUIRY Babcock and Wilcox Company has advised the Nuclear Regulatory Commission staff that it shut down its nuclear fuel fabrication facility at Apollor Pennsylvania, on July 29 to conduct a re-inventory of the high-enrihed uranium used there.
The results of a recent inventory showed that the amount of material unaccounted for ("MUF") was in excess of limits prescribed by NRC regulations.
According to Babcock and Wilcox, the "MUF is believed to result from inventory and accounting errors and there is no evidence to suggest that the material has been stolen or diverted.
Nevertheless, inspectors from the NRC's regional office in King of Prussia, Pennsylvania, will be at the site to inves-tigate the circumstances surrounding* the "MUF" and to observe
~1e re-inventory.
