No: 23-059 September 15, 2023 CONTACT: Holly Harrington, 301-415-8200 NRC to Hold Workshop on Artificial Intelligence Regulatory Applications The Nuclear Regulatory Commission is holding a public workshop on Sept. 19 to discuss the agencys activities to ensure the safe and secure use of AI in NRC-regulated activities. The Data Science and AI Regulatory Applications Workshop, which is the agencys fourth in the series, will provide an opportunity for the public, stakeholders and experts to discuss regulatory and technical aspects of AI usage in nuclear applications. The AI workshops support implementation of the NRC AI Strategic Plan.
NRC Chair Christopher T. Hanson will be providing opening remarks. The agenda for the upcoming workshop, and details on the three previous workshops held in 2021, are available on the NRCs website. Slides for the Sept. 19 workshop are available here.
This workshop, hosted by the NRCs Office of Nuclear Regulatory Research, will focus on various AI characteristics impacting regulatory considerations. It will take place from 10 a.m.-4 p.m. Eastern time in the Commissioners Conference Room at NRC headquarters at 11555 Rockville Pike in Rockville, Maryland. Those unable to attend in person can participate virtually on Microsoft Teams. All participants are requested to register online.
