No: 23-058 September 8, 2023 CONTACT: Scott Burnell, 301-415-8200 NRC Seeks Input; Offers Hearing Opportunity on Draft Environmental Impact Statement for Turkey Point Subsequent License Renewal The Nuclear Regulatory Commission is seeking public comment on its draft site-specific Environmental Impact Statement - known as an EIS - for the subsequent renewed licenses for the Turkey Point reactors in Florida. The agencys draft EIS is based on a supplemental Environmental Report the agency received from Florida Power & Light. The NRC has also opened an opportunity to request an adjudicatory hearing on the draft EIS.

To support the submission of public comments, NRC staff members will conduct two public meetings on the draft EIS, one near the plant site and the other virtual. The in-person meeting will be Sept. 19 from 7-9 p.m. Eastern, at the Hampton Inn & Suites, 2855 NE 9th St.,

Homestead, Florida. The staff will describe the environmental review process and accept comments about the draft EIS. The staff will also hold an open house from 6-7 p.m. Eastern for informal discussions. People needing accommodations or special equipment to attend or provide comments should contact Lance Rakovan by Sept. 12, via email at lance.rakovan@nrc.gov or via phone at 301-415-2589. The virtual meeting will be Sept. 27 from 2-4 p.m. Eastern via the Microsoft Teams platform.

The public can also submit comments via email to TurkeyPoint34Environmental@nrc.gov, or via regulations.gov using Docket ID NRC-2022- 0172. Comments may also be submitted via U.S. mail at Office of Administration, Mail Stop: TWFN-7-A60M, U.S. Nuclear Regulatory Commission, Washington, DC 20555-0001, ATTN: Program Management, Announcements and Editing Staff.

Comments are to be submitted by November 7; comments received after this date will be considered if it is practical to do so, but the NRC is able to ensure consideration only for comments received on or before this date. Interested parties have until November 7 to request an adjudicatory hearing.
