Section2.5.3oftheapplicationreliesontheinformationofClinchRiverEarlySitePermit applicationsearthquakecatalog,whichendsin2013.Anupdated(20132021)earthquake catalogshouldbeprovidedtodemonstratethattheassumptionsandconclusionsinthe CRNPSHAremainvalid.

KairosPowerResponse:

ThepossiblechangesinearthquakeactivityintheHermes,andClinchRiverNuclear(CRN),

siteregionduringthe20132021periodrelativetotheCRNrateshavenotyetbeen finalized.ThePSARreflectsanassumptionthattheClinchRiverEarlySitePermitapplication earthquakecatalogisrepresentativeoftheseismicactivitytobeexpectedattheHermes site,basedonproximitytoCRNandthefactthatrecentseismicactivityintheCentraland EasternUnitedStates(CEUS)sincethe2012MineralVirginiaearthquakeeventhasnotbeen significant.

KairosPowerisnotrequestingfinalapprovalofaseismichazarddesignprofileforHermes aspartofthePSAR.Theinformationprovidedissufficienttodeterminesuitablyofthesite fortheproposeduseofatestreactor.TheHermesOperatingLicenseApplicationwill reporttheseismichazardwithupdatedearthquakecatalogrecurrencerates.

KairosPowerResponse:

BoringdataclosesttotheproposedHermesreactorlocationindicatesthetopofthe weatheredrockisencounteredatadepthofapproximately13.5ft.,andthetopofsound rockatadepthofapproximately30ft.Theoverburdensoilsandtheweatheredrockwillbe excavated.Belowtheweatheredrock,soundbedrockrecoveredfromtheboringsdrilled showsnoevidenceoftheweakeningorweatheringthatisobservedintheinterfacecloser tothesurface.TheHermesfoundationwillbedeployedoveranengineeredcrushedstone orleanconcretefillplaceddirectlyoversoundrock.Theexcavationisplannedtoreachthe approximately30ftdepth,exposingthesurfaceofthefoundationrocktoallowfor inspectionandsurfacepreparation.Theseactivities,boringdataandfoundationrock inspectionfollowingexcavation,willallowthedeterminationtobemadethatthe foundationrockshowsnoevidenceofkarsticdissolution.
