ATTN: Document Control Desk US Nuclear Regulatory Commission Washington, DC 20555-0001 9 June 2021 KANSAS STATE TRIGA Mk II Nuclear U N I v E R s I T y Reactor Laboratory
Subject:
Request for Additional Information (Acc.# ML19128A342} Response Time Extension To Whom It May Concern, On 5 June 2019, the Nuclear Regulatory Commission (NRC) sent a Request for Additional Information (RAI) to the Kansas State University nuclear reactor facility (license R-88, docket 50-188) regarding a license amendment request (LAR) to add up to four 12%-loaded fuel elements to the core (Acc.#
ML1219A063). To complete the neutronics model, updated burn-up analysis is needed before benchmarking. As mentioned in the previous extension request, we have pursued external assistance for the analysis. A proposal from an external organization to perform the burn-up analysis and testing of the neutronics model is under review for funding. Because of prior commitments for the other organization, the proposal has a begin date of August of 2021 and a completion date at the end of February 2022. To allow for the neutronic analysis completion and subsequent thermal-hydraulic analysis, the facility is requesting to extend the RAI response time an additional year to 9 June 2022. If changes occur to the proposed tim,~line, the fa~ilitywill _notify th~ NRC.
Previously discussed operations restrictions will remain in place. Advanced notification to the NRC will be provided if~chiH:iges to the administrative restrictions are expected prior to completion of the LAR review.
I swear ur-ider penalty of perjury that the foregoing is true and correct.
