SUBJECT:

EVALUATION OF BALTIMORE GAS AND ELECTRIC COMPANY RESPONSE TO NRC GENERIC LETTER 97-05 FOR CALVERT CLIFFS NUCLEAR POWER PLANT, UNITS 1 AND 2 (TAC NOS. MA0452 AND MA0453)

Dear Mr. Cruse:

The NRC staff has completed its review of licensee responses to NRC Generic Letter (GL) 97-05, " Steam Generator Tube inspection Techniques." The focus of GL 97-05 was to verify that licensee stear,i generator tube inspection practices were consistent with existing regulatory I

requirements and plant licensing bases. Baltimore Gas and Electric Company submitted a response to this GL on March 16,1998, as supplemented on June 16,1998, that included a description and technical basis for allinspection techniques used to size the depth of steam generator tube degradation at Calvert Cliffs, Units 1 and 2. The staff's review of this response did not identify any concems with the steam generator tube inspection techniques employed at Calvert Cliffs that would indicate the licensee is not in compliance with the current licensing basis for this facility. Therefore, we have determined that this issue is closed for Calvert Cliffs Nuclear
