Rev. 9 RELIEF REQUEST #PO 1 SYSTEM:

Residual Heat Removal System COMPONENT: PEJ01A and PEJ01B CLASS:

FUNCTION: To provide low head safety injection and residual heat removal.

TEST REQUIREMENT:

The full-scale range of each instrument shall be three times the reference value or'less.

Instrument i

accuracy shall be within the limits of Table IWP-4110-1.

Station instruments meeting these requirements shall be acceptable.

1 BASIS FOR RELIEF:

Reference values for discharge pressure for these pumps are between 200 psig and 300 psig. This would require a discharge pressure gauge of 0-600 psig maximum. The accuracy required for this gauge would be 2% of 600 psig which is !'12 psig. The permanent i

discharge pressure gauges we have installed are 0-700 psig 10 psig. Although the permanent instruments are above the maximum range limits they are within the accuracy requirements and are therefore suitable for the test.

ALTERNATE TESTING:

Use permanently installed discharge pressure gauges.

TEST REQUIREMENT:

Exercise check valve (full stroke) to the position J

BASIS FOR RELlEF:

Exercising these valves during power. operation would I

require isolation of Feedwater to the steam i

generator which would result in a severe transient 4

in the steam generator, possibly causing a unit trip. Valve disassembly requires draining the steam generator below the feed header which can only~be performed during longer term shutdowns.

ALTERNATE TESTING: One of the following test methods shall be adhered to:

A)

A different valve of this group will be j

disassembled, inspected, and manually full j

stroked at each refueling, until the entire group has been tested.

If the full-stroke capability of the disassembled valve is in j

question, the remainder of the valves in this j

group will be disassembled also, inspected, and

)

manually full stroke at the same outage.

)

B)

Each valve of this group will be seat leak tested at refueling to prove valve closure capabilities.

3 FUNCTION: Valves open to provide assured source of auxil'ary feedwater from the Essential Service Water System.

TEST REQUIREMENT:

Exercise check valve (full strok to the position required to fulfill its functio every 3 months.

BASIS FOR RELIEF:

Full stroking these valves uld result in feeding dirty water into the steam enerators or to the l

condensate storage tank these are the only flow path available.

ALTERNATE TESTING:

A different valve of this group will be disassembled, inspected, and man lly full stroked at each refueling, until the entire roup has been tested.

If the full-stroke capabili of the disassembled valve is in question, the emainder of the valves in this group will be disa embled also, inspected, and manually full strok at the same outage.
