.....,o May 8, 1998 Mr. Charles H. Cruse, Vice President Nuclear Energy Division Baltimore Gas & Electric Company 1650 Calvert Cliffs Psrkway Lusby, Maryland 20657-47027

SUBJECT:

DETERMINATION OF ACCEPTABILITY AND SUFFICIENCY FOR DOCKETING BALTIMORE GAS & ELECTRIC COMPANY'S APPLICATION FOR RENEWAL OF OPERATING LICENSES FOR CALVERT CLIFFS NUCLEAR POWER PLANT, UNITS 1 AND 2

Dear Mr. Cruse:

On April 10,1998, the staff of the U.S. Nuclear Regulatory Commission received your application for renewal of operating licenses, DPR-53 and DPR-69 for Calvert Cliffs Nuclear Power Plant (CCNPP), Units 1 and 2. Notice of receipt of the Baltimore Gas & Electric (BG&E) Company's application was published in the Federal Reaister on April 27,1998 (63 FR 20663).

The staff has determined that BG&E has submitted sufficient information that is complete and acceptable for docketing, in accordance with 10 CFR 54.19, 54.21, 54.22, 54.23, and 51.53(c).

However, the staff's acceptance and sufficiency determination does not preclude requests for additionalinformation as the review proceeds.

The NRC staff will follow a planned procedure and schedule to complete the safety and environmental reviews. The details of the review schedule will be forwarded to BG&E in the very near future.

We have enclosed for your information a copy of the notice relating to your application that was ser,t to the Office of the Federal Register for publication. The opportunity to request a hearing will be the subject of a subsequent Federal Reoister notice.

If you have any questions on this matter, please contact David L. Solorio, the License Renewal Project Manager for CCNPP Units 1 and 2 at 301-415-1973.

Sincerely, w2' c.
