June 6, 1986 Docket No. 50-133 Mr. Michael R. Sherwood Sierra Club Legal Defense Fund, Inc.
2044 Fillmore Street San Francisco, California 94115
Dear Mr. Sherwood:
In your letter of May 22, 1986 you requested a 60 day extension of the time period for commenting on the Draft Environmental Statement (DES) for decommissioning of the Humboldt Bay Power Plant, Unit No. 3.
We have considered your request with respect to the public interest, our schedule and 10 CFR Part 51.73. As a result, we have determined that we will extend the time for submittal of comments from the public for 60 additional days, to August 15, 1986. A notice of this extension of comment period is being sent to the Office of the Federal Register for publication (copy-enclosed).
We agree that input from members of the public and interested groups is an important part of the environmental review process.
Following receipt of comments, we will prepare the Final ES (FES) that includes responses to the comments.
The FES and a safety evaluation must be completed before we can act on the proposed decommissioning plan.
Sincerely, Original signed by Herbert N. Berkow, Director Star.dardization and Special Projects Directorate Division of PWR Licensing-B
