On June 27,1997, in inspection Report 70 7002/97 203, the NRC issued a Notice of Violation to the United States Enrichment Corporation (USEC) concerning the validation of certain SCALE Nuclear Criticality Safety computer code calculations for uranium enrichments between 5 and 20 percent at the Portsmouth Gaseous Diffusion Plant, in a letter dated July 28,1997, USEC denied the violation and provided a basis for their denial. By letter dated October 28,1997, the NRC informed USEC that their response was inadequate and suggested a management meeting to reach a common understanding on this issue. As such, an open management meeting between the Corporation and NRC has been scheduled.
