Pierson:
This letter provides noti 0 cation of a de'.ction of a regulatory commitment cencerning installation of underground instrument and power cables. This commitment was contained in to USEC letter GDP 97-0023 dated h1 arch 1,1997, " Compliance Plan Issue C1/X1, List of Open United States Enrichment Corporation (USEC) Commitments to the Departraent of Energy (DOE)." The specines of this commitment and thejustification for deletion are provided below.
Description of Commitment
" Engineering will install underground instrument and power cables for X-345 to reduce system susceptibility to severe weather."
The due date for this commitment is January 31,1998, htgifkation for Deletion The above commitment was originally generated as part of the corrective action for DOE Event Report PTS-91-528 on the " Evacuation of X-345 SNh1 Storage Facility Due to Electrical Storm".' The purpose of this action number was to prevent false alarm actuatione at the X-345 SNM Storage Facility during lightning stonns. This commitment was inadvertently included in the list of I
open commitments provided to NRC on hiarch 1,1997. Ilowever, the X-345 facility is not a USEC leased facility; therefore, the corrective action for building equipment and utilities is not a USEC responsibility.
