. DEVICE TYPEt -Smoke: Detector i
DESCRIPTION 1 The SI series. smoke-detectors [(models SIH-24F, SIH-24FAP,-and' SIJ-24) are industrial-type detectors connected to and operated j-from a central fire control unit.
They are normally mounted on the ceiling or below-the floor.. These1 detectors are-designed such that;the radioactive material isinot readily accessible to; i
installers or users.
The ion chambers'for the detectors are the same.
The only major physical differences are the design of_the
. outer cover and in the method of attachment of the outer cover; 2
the SIJ-24 detector requires a-special tool to remove the outer cover, whereas the others do'not.
There are a few' minor internal physical differences.
The sensitivity lof the detectors to detect smoke also varies-.
t The method of assembly for the ion chamber is as follows:
j (1) The foil is captured onto the_ inner electrode with_a-retaining disc which'is staked in place by a hydraulically e
contrelled welding machine; (2) The inner electrode-is placed into the insulation plate and the intermediate electrode is then snapped over the inner electrode andlinto the insulation plate.
i One leg of the intermediate electrode snaps into the insulation 4-plate-and the other leg _ protrudes through_the insulation plate and is soldered; and (3) The outer electrode is then placed over.
-this assembly.. The outer electrode has:two-tabs,-180* apart, that are placed through-openings in both the insulation; plate and--
t the printed control board.
These tabs are t. hen' soldered.
Once this is. complete, the source is inaccessible without someone i
removing the printed circuit board from'the detector and l-de-soldering the two legs of the outer electrode.
