GENERIC LETTER 92-08 CLuc, OUT REPORT,'THERMO-LAG RELATED AMPACITY DERATING ISSUES FOR BEAVER VALLEY POWER STATION, UNIT NO. 2 (TAC NO. MA1347)

Dear Mr. Cross:

By [[letter::L-97-039, Provides Notification of Completion of Corrective Actions for Thermo-Lag 330-1 Fire Barrier Systems at BVPS,Unit2,as Requested in GL 92-08.Response to 970829 RAI Re Ampacity Derating Issues & Calculation DE&S-SR/EM01,also Encl|letter dated October 13,1997]], as supplemented May 27,1998, Duquesne Light Company (DLC) submitted a response to the NRC staff's April 6,1998, Request for Additional information (RAI) related to Generic Letter (GL) 92-08, "Thermo-Lag 330-1 Fire Barriers," for Beaver Vciley Power Station, Unit No. 2 (BVPS-2). The NRC staff, in conjunction with its contractor, Sandia National Laboratories (SNL), has completed its review of DLC's analytical approach for ampacity derating determinations. The results of the review are documented in the enclosed safety evaluation and in the SNL Technical Letter Report, "A Technical Evaluation of the Beaver Valley Fire Barrier Clad Cable Ampacity Assessments," dated January 23,1998, (see attachment to enclosed safety evaluation).

On the basis of our review and DLC's commitment to take corrective actions to address the 4

overloaded cables in conduits 2CL213ND and 2CL6070E, the NRC staff concludes that there are no outstanding ampacity derating issues identified in GL 92-08 for BVPS-2. This completes the NRC staff's action under TAC No. MA1347.
