By the subject Generic Letter dated February 17, 1988, NRC requested that Georgia Power Company submit an affirmation of compliance with the requirements of I&E Bulletin 85-01 that the plant rocedures monitoring Auxiliary Feedwater (AFH) fluid conditions and identifying and restoring from AFH steam binding are in place and will be maintained.
Monitoring of Auxiliary Feedwater (AFH) system fluid conditions when the AFH system is required to be operable is accomplished as part of operator daily rounds.
Plant Vogtle Unit 1 Procedure 11882-1, "Outside Operator Rounds Sheets" requires checking of the three AFH pumps suction and discharge piping temperatures by touch once per shift (12 hours1.388889e-4 days <br />0.00333 hours <br />1.984127e-5 weeks <br />4.566e-6 months <br />).
Symptoms of AFH steam binding and corrective actions to restore the AFH system to operational status are addressed in Unit 1 Standard Operating Procedure (SOP) 13610-1, "Auxiliary Feedwater System".
This program will remain in place for Unit I and a similar program will be implemented for Unit 2 prior to initial criticality.
The following information is provided for cost evaluation of this Generic Letter:
1.
Staff time to perform the requested confirmation and any needed followup actions - 16 manhours.
2.
Staff time to prepare requested documentation - 23 manhours.
