This office has received a copy of your May 22, 1978 applicaticn for amendment to Facility License Nos. DPR-29 and DPR-30 with the Office of Nuclear Reactor Regulation.

The application relates to proposed amend-ments to the Technical Specifications for Quad-Cities 1 and 2 concerning the removal of reactor water cleanup system return isolation valve from Table 3.7-1 and exclusion of the valve from surveillance described in Section 4.7.D.

The application was accompanied by fees total'ing $1,600 for one each of amendment fee Classes II and I.

We have determined from our preliminary review that the requested action falls in Classes III and I (totalling $4,400) because it will involve a single safety issue.

You should forward the additional fee of $2,800 promptly to this office.

Fees are payable to the U.S. Nuclear Regulatory Commission by checkj draft, or money order.

If after the final evalua-tion of your application is completed it is determined that it was incorrectly classified, you will be refunded any overpayment or billed for any additional amount due.
