Gentlemen:
This refers to the inspection conducted by Mr. H. D. Chaney of this office
du. ring the period January 6-10, 1986, of activities authorized by NRC Operating
License DPR-40 for Fort Calhoun Station, and to the discussion of our findings
with you and other members of your staff at the conclusion of the inspection.
Areas examined during the inspection included the radiation protection program,
low-level radioactive waste program, and the radioactive material transportation
program. Within these areas, the inspection consisted of selective examination
of procedures and representative records, interviews with personnel, and
observations by the inspector.
These findings are documented in the enclosed
inspection report.
During this inspection, it was fcund that certain of your activities appeared
to be in violation of NRC requirements.
The results of the inspection are
documented in the enclosed inspection report.
As discussed in the telephone
conversation between Blaine Murray of this office and Mr. Larry Kusek of your
staff on March 17, 1986, we have scheduled an enforcement conference in our
office at 10:00 A.M. on April 10, 1986, to discuss these apparent violations.
We have also examined actions you have taken with regard to previously identified
inspection findings.
The status of these items is identified in paragraph 2 of
the eiiclosed report.
Should you have any questions concerning this inspection, we will be pleased to
discuss them with you.
