(TAC NO. L30917) - EXTENSION OF LICENSE (TAC N0. L21653)

Dear Dr. Asmussen:

In accordance witt,,, cur applications dated September 26, 1995, and supplements dated June 14, July 19, and October 15, 1996, and pursuant to Part 70 to Title 10 of the Code of Federal Regulations, Materials License SNM-696 is hereby amended to include changes to Section 4 of Part II " Specifications Volume."

We have reviewed the revisions to the license specifications ' n radiological o

safety stated in your October 15, 1996, submittal.

Our review has determined there is reasonable assurance that the proposed replacement safety measures do not constitute a hazard to the health and safety of the public.

Accordingly, Materials License SNM-696 is hereby amended to modify the operating activities at your site to accommodate the proposed safety measures.

Safety License Condition S-1 has been revised to include the date of October 15, 1996, for the changes to Part II of the License Specifications.

In addition, the staff has concluded that the renewal of your license is unnecessary due to the fact that your license is in a possession only status and that all activities are associated with decommissioning and ultimate site release. Accordingly, Materials License SNH-696 is hereby extended for the period of decommissioning.

Your renewal application review will be suspended in view of the fact that your current license has been suspended for the period of decommissioning.
