- 11. D. Thornburg, Chief, Field Support and Enforcenent Branch F0 i 342 - C&O #314 The enclosure to the subject document reconnended issuance of a Dulletin relative to failure of components in the main steam isolation valve control systaa at honticello.
The affected components were installed as part of a modification made in early 1973.
The licensee, in reporting the failure, stated its belief that such failure might be generic. We concur.
General Electric Company has reported the lionticello modification to Licensing in the form of Supplement I to APED-5750, with the statement that it is recouaending this modification to all its customers, and will routinely supply the modified design on all future facilities.
Licensing is currently evaluating the acceptability of this modification with a target date for decision of liay 1,1974.
The llonticello occurrence is being considered in this evaluation.
To our knowledge, the only other facility which has made the Monticello modification is Cooper (we do not have information on H111 stone 1 and VermontYankee1).
I Under the circulastances, we do not believe that a Bulletin is warranted.
