In accordance with the Notice of Expiration for the subject license which was received on 1 April 1985, we hereby request renewal of the subject license for a period of five (5) years.
All terms and conditions of the present license, and representations in our letters of 5 March 1980 and 6 May 1980 remain the same with the exception of the membership of the Isotopes Users Committee.
In 1983, I was appointed Radiation Safety Officer and Secretary of the Committee, and Alan P. Fleer was appointed Assistant Radiation Safety Officer. Documents related to these appointinents are enclosed. The current membership of the Committee is:

" Procurement and'Use of Radioisotopes on W.H.O.I. Property"
Subject:
Radiation Safety Officer Changes in work assignments and in. Nuclear Regulatory Commission requirements'for the Institution's Byproduct Materials License make it necessary.to create the positions of Radiation Safety Officer and Assistant Radiation Safety Officer.
The duties and responsibilities of these positions are defined as follows:
The Radiation Safety Officer shall assist and be responsible to
-the Isotopes Users Committee in meeting their responsibilities with respect to radioisotope use as defined in Section II.B of the Woods Hole Oceanographic Institution Isotope Users Manual (Technical Mem-orandum No. 8-79).
His' responsibilities shall specifically include the-following:

Maintain records of all users of radionuclides and radiation producing machines; 2)
Maintain records of specific W.H.O.I.
facilities approved for' radiation work; i
1 23)- Maintain records.of radionuclides on hand, procured and disposed of; 4)
Insure that periodic surveys and monitoring required by the IUC are conducted; 5)
Maintain records-of-film badge dosimetry and bioassays as required;

Maintain survey. instruments for short-term loan to.
investigators; 7)
Arrange for calibration and repair of survey instruments l
as required; 8)
Receive and monitor all shipments of radioactive materials; 9)'
Arrange for proper disposal of radioactive waste; 10)
Schedule and maintain records of sealed source leak tests; 11)
Provide training and guidance for new radiation workers.

The Assistant Radiation Safety Officer shall assist the RSO in these' functions involving radioisotope use on the Quissett Campus.
Eric W.
Spencer, Institution Safety Officer, will function as RSO and Alan P. Fleer as Assistant RSO until further notice.

-addition, the RSO will serve as permanent Secretary of the Isotope Users Committee.
