Standby Diesel Generator Lube Oil Keep Warm Pump
Dear Mr. Johnson:
This letter provides an interim report on a potential 10CFR50.55(e) con-cerning failure of the lube oil keep warm pump for the standby diesel generator. This matter was initially reported by Mr. H.K. Chernoff of Kansas Gas and Electric Company (KG&E) to Mr. Johns Jaudon of the Nuclear Regulatory Commission, Region IV, on March 9,1984.
During component testing the standby diesel generator lube oil keep warm pump failed while operatirig. This pump (model #NRP 002002) is manufactured by Crane-Deming. An inspection revealed that eight pump rotor teeth had broken causing the pump to fail.
An investigation of this pump failure is being conducted by the Architect /
EIgineer. Preliminary findings indicate that this failure may have been the result of improper adjustraent which may have caused pump seizure. A final report will be submitted upon conclusion of this investigation.
The status of this potential 10CFR50.55(e) will be carried on the monthly status update as file 53564-K126. The final report or any significant new information will be subiaitted by separate correspondence. In the interim, please direct any questions conerning this subject to me or to Mr. Otto Maynard of my staff.
