Attachment to Monthly Operating Report for January, 1984 PEACH BOTTOM ATOMIC POWER STATION NARRATIVE
SUMMARY
OF OPERATING EXPERIENCES January, 1984 l
Unit 2 The unit operated at full power from January 1 thru January 23..
On Canuary 23, the main stack radiation monitoring system was unable to obtain sample flow due to frozen sample lines.
An unusual event was declared and a controlled shutdown was initiated.
The unit was at-884 power, that same day, when the unusual event was terminated and the sample flow line was re-established.
The unit was restored to full power and continued to operate at full power until January 28.
On January 28, a controlled shutdown was initiated to repair a leak on the RCIC testable check valve.
The unit remained shutdown for-the rest of the month.
On January 11, the E-3 diesel generator was declared inoperable due to a ground caused by a damaged. conduit containing an output cable for the generator.
On January 13, the. diesel generator-was returned to service with a temporary modification allowing the diesel generator to operate without.this damaged cable.
UNIT 3 i
The unit began the operating period at full power.
On January 6, i
the HPCI turbine exhaust inner rupture disc failed during a j
surveillance test.
The HPCI was taken out of service and repairs j
completed the same day.
]
On January 14, the unit-was removed from service due to flooding i
of the condensate pump pit which was caused by an open' vent valve on a main condenser water box.
The flooding of the condensate pump room resulted in damage to the condensate pump thrust i
bearings.
Daring th3 manual scram on January 14, control rod-j (34-27) failed to insert within the prescribed time due to sticking of a scram pilot solenoid valve.
This. failure has led
}
to an extensive investigation for possible causes and generic implications.
The Nuclear Review Board' examined'the results of 2
the corrective actions taken and the protective = actions to be.
l implemented and approved startup of the unit.
The unit was
~
)
returned to power on' January 27.-
Full power was' attained'at 7:22 L
- p.m. on January 30, and operated at. full power for the remainder j
of the month.
