ULNRC-818 FINAL 10CFR50.55 (e) REPORT U-78 HALON FIRE PROTECTION SYSTEM CHEMETRON CHECK VALVE FAILURE CALLAWAY PLANT
REFERENCE:
ULNRC-793 dated April 10, 1984 The referenced letter provided an interim report regarding a significant deficiency involving failure of a spring seat for a Chemetron No. 1-061-0732 check valve during discharge testing of a Halon Fire Protection System.
As reported, parts from the fractured spring seat became lodged in a selector valve which may have adversely affected subse-quent discharges.
The vendor has performed the evaluation of the failure and concluded by successful testing that an upgraded
- material for the spring seat is all'that is required.
Union Electric has installed the reworked check valves with the upgraded spring seat in all Halon systems.
In order to retain the UL listing of the original check valve the vendor has submitted the documentation for the upgraded check valve to UL for their final approval.
This letter serves as our final report on this subject.
