P. O. BOX 14000, JUNO BE ACH, F L 33408 FLOHIDA POWER & LIGHT COMPANY February 28, 1983 L-83-101 Office of Nuclear Reactor Regulation Attention: Mr. Darrell G. Eisenhut, Director Division of Licensing U. S. Nuclear Regulatory Commission Washington, D.C. 20555

Dear Mr. Eisenhut:

Re: St. Lucie Unit No. 2 Docket No.6 50-357 Radiation Protection Program The purpose of this letter is to inform you that Florida Power & Light Company plans to implement the St. Lucie Unit.No. 2 Radiation Protection Program at least five days prior to initial criticality, rather than prior to core load. This implementation schedule is appropriate, in that the reactor plant will not have been operated, and therefore, there will be no source of radioactivity or radiation. Also, implementation at least five days prior to initial criticality will allow sufficient time to ensure that personnel are familiar with the program as required, by initial criticality.

Your concurrence with this proposed implementation schedule is requested.

Very truly yours, 1
