SUBJECT:
NUREG-0737, Item III.A.2, Meteorological Monitoring System-Peach Bottom Atomic Power Station
Dear Mr. Eisenhut:
This letter identifies the need for an extension in the implementation schedule for the installation of the new meteorological monitoring system at Peach Bottom Units 2 & 3.
A previous commitment to complete the installation by January 1, 1983 was provided in the following correspondence:
(1)
Letter dated May 6, 1982, S. L. Daltroff to D. G.
Eisenhut, and (2) letter dated June 3, 1982, S. L. Daltroff to D. G.
Eisenhut.
The attachment to the May 6, 1982 letter provided a description of the new meteorological monitoring system.
Implementation by January 1, 1983 cannot be achieved for the following reason.
During the installation of the monitoring equipment on the No. 2 weather tower, structural deficiencies in the tower were discovered.
An engineering evaluation of the tower's structural capabilities is currently in progress to identify the necessary corrective act!on.
For this reason completion of the No. 2 tower monitoring installation and interfacing systems have been delayed.

Completion of the engineering evaluation on the weather tower is necessary to define the scope of work remaining and to identify a realistic implementation schedule.
At this time, it appears that an additional five months will be needed to complete the installation and checkout of the new system.
We propose a January 15, 1983 submittal date for identifying a schedule for completing the installation of the meteorological system.
Should you have any questions concerning this matter, please do not hesitate to contact us.
Sincerely, l
