SERVICE METAL TEMPERATURES FOR CONTAINMENT FLUED HEAD PENETRATIONS FILE: M-111 SERIAL: 23872

REFERENCE:

J W COOK LETTER TO H R DENTON (NRC) SERIAL 23223 DATED 6/23/83 This letter provides information on the lowest expected service metal temperatures for selected containment flued head penetrations.

In the referenced letter, Consumers Power Company transmitted information relating to the reclassification of penetrations at the Midland Plant from SA-508 Class I material to SA-105 material. Furthermore, Consumers Power Company committed i

to subsequently submit the lowest expected service metal temperatures for the subject penetrations. The fellowing listing indicates both the lowest expected and the lowest permissible service metal temperatures for each of the penetrations under review.

3 The preceeding table shows that for all of the affected penetrations, the minimum expected service metal temperatures are equal to or greater than the minimum permissible service metal temperatures.

Consistent with previous Staff communications, the data for minimum expected service temperatures were determined based on a 90% or greater probability of occurence.

This transmittal should complete the information the NRC requires to evaluate the proposed penetration material reclassification from SA-508 Class I material to SA-105 material. Should the Staff have any further questions regarding this topic, CPCo would request that a meeting be scheduled at your earliest convenience.
