Mr. D. M. Sternberg, Chief Reactor Projects Branch No. 1
Subject:
POTENTIAL 10CFR50.55(e) DEFICIENCY SAFETY INJECTION TANKS SAFE-END INDICATIONS (D/N #23)
Reference:
Letter, G03-83-186, Mr. R. S. Leddick to Mr. D. M.
Sternberg, same subject, dated March 2, 1983.
The referenced letter provided your office with the Supply System final report for the subject deficiency. The report noted that linear indications were found in the safe-end-to-nozzle-welds of Unit 3 Safety Injection Tanks #3 and #4 only. Consequently, Tanks
- 1 and #2 for Unit 3 and the four tanks for Unit 5 were not dis-cussed.
In response to questions raised by the Resident NRC Inspector (Mr. W. G. Albert) the following supplemental information concern-ing the Safety Injection Tanks, not discussed in the referenced letter, is provided:
e Safe-end-to-nozzle-welds for Unit 3 Safety Injection Tanks
- 1 and #2 were re-radiographed on October 26, 1982 and October 7, 1982, respectively. The radiographs were reviewed, approved and found acceptable per specification and ASME Code requirements by Combustion Engineering. The radiographs were also reviewed by Ebasco with no comments.
It should be noted that the radiography was performed after post weld heat treatment.
